The TL Baillieu Handicap is an exclusive two-year olds handicap race that comes along in April every year at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse in New South Wales. The event is part of the Group 3 Races that feature on the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and is run over a distance of 1400M. The TL Baillieu Handicap is ideally seen by many horse owners and trainers as the best platform for improving two year olds returning back to form.
There is $125,000 in prize money on offer in this race and last year, Champollion showcased exemplary running to win the TL Baillieu Handicap title in spectacular fashion. Coming in second and third respectively was Ideal Guide and Rightoncue. After changing its name from the Schweppervescence, the TL Baillieu Handicap has gained popularity due to its consistent show of quality and competitive racing among talented and gifted two year old horses across the country. The race also features on the same day as the Golden Slipper Stakes and the Group 1 The BMW.
The TL Baillieu Handicap and its 1400M distance makes it a good leap up event for the Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes which takes place on the last day of the Sydney Autumn. Although in recent years not many 2year olds have managed a TL Baillieu Handicap and The ATC Champagne Stakes double, back in 2009 Onemorenomore completed a great performance in the Sydney Autumn with a double victory.
A year later, outstanding 2year old Skilled also replicated this success. For horse racing enthusiasts looking for a great curtain raiser to build up for the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes, the TL Baillieu Handicap is one of the best picks. Other notable horses to feature in the race include Mentality in 2006 , Do You Think in 2011 and Flying Snitzel in 2012.
