The Sky High Stakes is one of the major Group 3 Races in the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The event takes center stage at The Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales every year in March and is regarded as one of the best Handicap races. The Sky High Stakes is worth $150,000 in prize money and talented and strong horses fight it out for a piece of the prize money over a distance of 1900M.
The 2014 edition of the Sky High Stakes has a hard fought affair but in the end, Entirely Platinum put up a resilient and breathtaking final charge to claim the spoils ahead of Midsummer Sun and Dessert Jeuney in second and third respectively. The Sky High Stakes was elevated from a listed event to a Group 3 race for the 2013-14 season and is now one of the highlight races in the Sydney Autumn. The event also features on the same day as the Group 1 Coolmore Classic and the Ranvest Stakes.
For the better part of its history, the Sky High Stakes has attracted above average 3yo horses that are just starting their racing careers. The group 3 Liverpool City Cup that come earlier in the Sydney Autumn is a good lead up race for the Sky High Stakes. 3yos that perform well in the race can also run and compete strongly for honors in the Group 3 Epona Stakes and The Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes.
Some of the notable horses to take part in the Sky High Stakes include Entirely Platinum this year, Single in 2012 and Julieanas in 2013. Entirely Platinum came from winning the BM85 Handicap weeks earlier before winning the 2014 Sky High Stakes. In the years to come, a lot of horse trainers and horse racing enthusiasts believe the Sky High Stakes will grow and become even bigger.
