The Sheraco Stakes is an exclusive fillies and mares only Group 3 event that takes center Stage at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse every year in September during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The race is a great sprint test for elite and emerging horses and today its worth up to $100,000 in prize money. Run under set weights, the Sheraco Stakes has over the last few years produced competitive and enthralling sprint racing. The 2013 edition of the race was proudly won by Driefontein after a strong run to beat Peron and Arctic Flight in second and third respectively.
Last year, the Sheraco Stakes was upgraded from a listed event to a Group 3 race and based on the quality racing this event has showcased in recent years it is not hard to see why. In the 2014 Spring Carnival, the race will take place on the same day as the Group 1 Golden Rose and this should complete a great line up of remarkable racing. The Sheraco Stakes often attracts and assembles quality mares and fillies and in most cases, a classy or in form horse tends to win the race.
Notable horses to have graced this event include More Joyous who claimed the title twice in 2010 and 2012. Others include Gybe in 2011 and Driefontein last year. Although the Sheraco Stakes is just a year old in its new Group 3 Status, the race is expected to be a major prospect in the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and the general Australian Horse racing calendar in the future.
