Sandown racecourse was built for the Victoria Amateur Club back in 1965. The racecourse is located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, a few kilometers from the CBD. When the racecourse was established it had a circumference of 1892 meters and a home straight of 407 meters. In 2001 however, the racecourse underwent a major reconstruction where the developers created two turf tracks. One of the courses which is called lakeside course ended up with an 1857 meter circumference and a home straight of 407 meters. The other course known as the hillside course has 2087 meters in circumference and a 491 meters home straight.
