The Dark Jewel Classic is a fillies and mares only quality handicap race that features on the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The Group 3 event is worth $ 200,000 in prize money and talented fillies and mares fight out for honors over a middle distance of 1400M. The 2013 race was won by Arctic Flight. The Mare produced an exemplary run to beat Pipette and Miss StellaBelle in second and third respectively. The Dark Jewel Classic is held in May every year at the Scone Racecourse in the provincial town of Scone, New South Wales.
The town is located 270 Kilometers North of the Capital Sydney and the Dark Jewel Classic is one of its biggest horse racing event. Scone is by far regarded by many Horse racing enthusiasts as the capital of Australian Horse racing. The town also holds a two day Scone Cup Carnival which is one of the richest country racing events across Australia. For the last few years, the Dark Jewel Classic has managed to assemble equally gifted above average fillies and mares.
The competitive nature of the event makes it very difficult for punters to predict winners and over the last five editions of the race, the surprises have been part and parcel of it. Recent Dark Jewel Classic winners include the Shannara in 2011 and Upon This Rock back in 2012. The Dark Jewel Classic is one of the best country Group 3 races and in the 2014 edition, horse trainers and jockeys looking to take part in it can with uttermost certainty look forward to a great and thrilling event.
