Happy Clapper Back In Canterbury Stakes Race
Pat Webster’s stable star, Happy Clapper is on track to win the race inSaturday’s Group One Canterbury Stakes. The Canterbury Stakes offers $500,000 in cash prize and Happy Clapper is running for this prize money. Just a few years ago, Happy Clapper wonhalf a million dollars when he ran second in the Doncaster.
After coming in second in Doncaster last year, Happy Clapper finally got its time in the spotlight by winning theGroup One Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick. He also won second place in Emirates Stakes which earned him another $360,000.
This will be his first start since the Emirates. His trainer, Pat Webster is also in a good place which makes them both fit for this race. Also, they hope that it will not rain on the day of the race because Happy Clapper is better on firm tracks.
Happy Clapper will also run up against Kris Lees trainedClearly Innocent who has drawn nicely at barrier three in the nine horse Canterbury Stakes field.Clearly Innocent previously won $700,000 in the Darley Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm during the 2017 Brisbane Winter Carnival.
Other rivals include the Invincible Gem who has a very good first uprecord and will be stepping out for the first time since running third to Happy Clapper in the Group 2 $200,000 Tattersalls Club Tramway Stakes (1400m).
