With the Melbourne Cup 2017 just around the corner, the Sporting Tips team is here to provide you some really handy tips for every Group 1 race going into Tuesday’s showpiece events. On Saturday, Flemington will host four Group 1 races, among which the 2017 Victoria Derby is the race that has got Punters across Australia immensely excited. In fact, he Victoria Derby is considered to be one of the most prestigious races, with a history of over 160 years. With a prizemoney of $1.5 million up for grabs, 18 3YO speedsters and their jockeys are currently lined up to take part in the race barring any last minute scratchings.

A mammoth 90,000+ attendance is expected at Flemington on Saturday and this event will surely act as the perfect prelude for racing fans before Tuesday’s grand race. Let’s look into the top contenders for the race.

Ace High
Jockey Tye Angland will surely be doing his best to score a hattrick of victories with this David Payne trained speedy colt. In fact, the colt has won 3 of his past five races, while also finishing fifth in the remaining two. The colt’s biggest career success came only a fortnight ago, when it won the Spring Champions Stake in Randwick. However, despite it’s miraculous success rates in recent months, punters still don’t seem to be extremely confident about Ace High, considering its victory odds are hovering around $4.60. However, it surely isn’t too difficult to expect a top 3 finish from this speedy colt.

Tangled
Trainer Chris Waller and jockey Blake Shinn will hope that it will be ‘third-time lucky’ for their colt in Saturday’s race. The smallest of margins separated Tangled from Ace High in the Spring Champions Stakes. However, with a sole victory in its last 10 appearances and a solitary group level race victory doesn’t really paint a rosy picture about this horse’s chances, especially considering the quality of the opponents. However, a top 5 finish would be reasonable to expect from this $6.50 rated colt.

Main Stage
With only podium place finishes in all its races, including two wins and two second place finishes, this Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young trained Kiwi speedster definitely deserves more attention from punters. In fact, this colt could have a promising future in the world of horseracing, if one considers its amazing debut run. On an average day, this $7 rated colt could easily finish in the top 5 position.

Sully
Despite its amazing start in the junior circuit, Sully hasn’t quite been able to display the quality that its stablemate Main Stage has been able to demonstrate. However, there is no denying that this gelding could have a promising future. Yet, considering the quality of the opponents, even a top 5 finish would be a miraculous result to expect from this 3YO, despite the $8 rating.

PROMISING OUTSIDERS
Weather With You: Although this colt maybe making its debut in the group level with the Victoria Derby, this colt could be expected to strike a podium finish.
Astoria: With already a victory in the group level circuit, this colt might be the surprise package for the race.
